PVA Funding Requests

PVA raises and disburses funds in support of Our Mission.

Pine View clubs, teachers, and staff can apply to PVA for funding that supports student programs, classroom needs, and school-wide initiatives. Review the guidelines and deadlines below, then submit your request.

Before you start

Prior to seeking a funding request proposal through PVA, any club sponsor or faculty/staff member must discuss the proposal with the administration and explore internal and external funding sources, prior level(s) of funding, number of students served, and alignment with our Pine View School Mission. Only those funding requests which are approved, and cannot otherwise be funded, will be sent forward to PVA for presentation and consideration for funding. Regardless of whether Pine View School funds the request, or it eventually is considered and possibly approved through PVA, all Sarasota County School Board policies must be followed.

The basics

The Three W's.

Who

Funds may be requested of PVA by administrators, guidance staff, teachers, club sponsors, or board members. Students and parents must have a faculty/staff sponsor in order to present a funding request.

When

Requests must be approved by Dr. Covert and passed on to PVA two weeks prior to the second Tuesday of each month, excluding June, July, August, and December.

Where

Use the online form on this page. PVA board members will often have specific questions about a request which will need to be answered prior to the board meeting. For requests over $1,000, requestors must attend a PVA board meeting to present their proposal and answer any remaining questions.

2026–27 schedule

Due dates.

Important: Any funding request submitted within two weeks of the PVA meeting will be held for voting until the following month. Requests are typically not reviewed in December or January.

Process

How to submit.

  1. 1

Discuss your proposal with Dr. Covert and explore internal/external funding sources first.

  2. 2

Fill out the online Funding Request Form.

  3. 3

Email Dr. Covert with any attachments and to confirm the request was received.

  4. 4

Dr. Covert forwards approved requests to the PVA President and Funding Request Chair (Silke Cuff and Evan Morgan).

  5. 5

If approved by administration, the request is forwarded to the full PVA Board. If additional information is needed, Dr. Covert sends it back to you.

What happens next.

Requests ≤ $1,000

Requestor may present to the PVA Board, but it is not required. Requestor prepares a written proposal that will be reviewed and voted on during the PVA Board Meeting.

Requests > $1,000

Requestor and students give a 3-minute presentation at the PVA Board Meeting. The board meeting includes a funding request vote (with limited discussion, because concerns are worked out beforehand).

Evan Morgan works with PVA to gather questions or concerns from board members before the meeting. These are forwarded to the requestor so any issues can be addressed prior to the vote.

Voting criteria

What PVA considers.

  • How does the funding further Pine View School and PVA's missions?
  • Does it directly or indirectly benefit a significant number of students?
  • Does the funding request benefit an underserved group at PV?
  • How does PVA view a club requesting one lump sum for the entire year?
  • Does funding raise Pine View's overall profile?
  • How has the club raised funds in the past?
  • Are the objectives/outcomes obtainable?
  • How will the club report its impact back to PVA?

After approval

After you receive funding.

Once funds are spent, prepare a final report to PVA that includes:

  • Total budget, PVA funding amount, additional sources of funding, and uses of funds
  • Project objectives and goals
  • Details of project accomplishments and their significance
  • Description of need or plans for additional work on this project
  • Explanation of any changes to goals and objectives
  • Explanation of how results have been or will be disseminated

Benefitted clubs attend the Spring PVA meeting for a look-back / look-forward PowerPoint presentation.
